The Emergency Department (ED) at A.O. Fox Hospital is a 14 bed, high acuity ED providing a wide range of state-of-the-art services to the greater Oneonta community and surrounding areas. The department is fully staffed with Emergency Medicine, residency trained and board-certified physicians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Under the direction of Francis J. Nolan, M.D., FACEP, the department handles about 18,000 cases a year and has an admission rate of 19-23%.
State of The Art Emergency Services The Fox Emergency Department offers some of the latest advances in Emergency Medicine. These include: "Clotbuster"- TPA therapy for acute heart attacks and stroke. Dermabond - It's true! Some wounds can be closed without sewing! This unique process allows physicians to painlessly use a special adhesive to close some wounds. Ultrasound - Bedside ultrasounds are available for instant results, Observation Chest Pain Unit - A 2 bed unit dedicated to the evaluation of chest pain and ruling out heart attacks. Crisis Intervention Service - A 3 bed unit for the medical and psychiatric evaluation of psychiatric emergencies. Emergency Specialty Consultation - A comprehensive backup team of medical, surgical, radiology (x-ray), and pediatric specialists is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for evaluation of problems that need additional expertise.
We're Here For Kids, Too! Fox EDKIDS is a kid-friendly place! In conjunction with our covering pediatric group, Child and Adolescent Health Care Associates, materials, policies, and proceedures are reviewed regularly to provide the best care for children. In addition, our staff knows that kids need special care and handling when they are sick, and make sure that our smallest patients receive the same level of care as our largest.
