"A hospital based intervention program that can help teenagers who have become- or are at risk of becoming- a danger to themselves or others. For these children, and  their families, there is a solution . . . the Adolescent Psychiatric Unit at A.O. Fox Hospital."
The Adolescent Psychiatric Unit is a 12 bed unit, divided into 7 bedrooms, that accommodates both males and females from 12 to 18 years old.  Patients are accepted on a referral basis from physicians, counselors,  therapists, and other qualified professionals.
Treatment Goals
  • To provide treatment and stabilization to the degree necessary to allow the patient to function safely in a less restrictive living and educational situation.
  • To provide the family, providers of discharge treatment and/or the school with sufficient information to proceed with the therapeutic process following discharge.

A Full Range of Treatments

The Adolescent Psychiatric Unit is able to provide a wide range of therapies, depending on each patient's specific needs. These treatments include the following therapies:

  • Individual
  • Group
  • Play
  • Family
  • Recreational
  • Occupational
  • Psychoeducation
  • Pharmacological

Treatment is geared toward educating the patient on how to handle feelings and fears-teaching and reinforcing appropriate modes of behavior. We expect and encourage families to be involved throughout the assessment and treatment process.
